Class work and grading
This is mainly for AP US, but all classes can benefit from the information. I am having issues with the group email feature in my GSDS account so please pass this on to your friends who are not on FB.
There seems to be concern that your AP US class may be assigned “busy work” while I am out. There also seems to be the misunderstanding that all work is graded work. I would like to direct your attention to your syllabus and remind you about the grading policy for my classes.
Grading Procedures: The Accountability Quiz
I do not like to take up assignments. Therefore, I conduct accountability quizzes (AQs) to hold students accountable for the accurate completion of assignments. AQ’s typically consist of ten questions about the assignment. On some AQ’s students are allowed to use notes, and on some they are not. This option will vary from assignment to assignment and students should treat all assignments as if they will be held accountable for the material, without the crutch of notes.
You will eventually be held accountable for all work assigned. Rather than give an assignment that will have you gathering information that I will be giving you on Wednesday I feel it is best to give you class time to work on your next topic list. Hopefully this will ease your work load over the next few weeks. To ensure that there are no feelings that the work is “busy work” and not worth doing when it is assigned I would like to assure you that you will be held accountable for at least the first third of the list when I return. Since there are three columns this should be understood to mean the first column. I hope you have a wonderful long weekend in which you can rest, recover from illness if you have been sick, and enjoy the, hopefully, nice weather.
