Purpose: Analyze the importance of culture upon world view with a beginning look at individual culture.

Style: Photo essay, portfolio/scrapbook format or presentation format

Time: 2 weeks DUE SEPTEMBER 8th

Students are to take pictures of places and things important to them. Each picture should include a description of the picture and why it is important to the student. Pictures can include, but are not limited to: family gatherings, sports events, places, nature, home, school, friends, belongings, community events, important buildings, and places they’ve been. The pictures presented should represent the culture of the student.

Before the project we will discuss geography and geographical influences. How does where we live influence our life? (Speech, food, dress, action) How do you think it influences our thoughts and beliefs? If we lived in another country would we still hold the same beliefs as we do in this country? What about a different region of this country? What shapes your personal culture?

Be prepared to explain your product.

Plan a Trip: Deadline soon!

Posted by Sharbs

Students your project is due soon! If you need guidelines for the project go here.

If you are needing help with hotel and flight information I recommend expedia.com. It is the easiest to search. You can also search for combined hotel and flight packages. CB students, this will help your budget! Tips for searching can be found here.

What do you turn in?
1. One page essay. It must include:

- Location
- Government type
- Current Leader
- Population
- Climate
- History and things to see

2. An itinerary

This is simply a schedule of what to do on your trip and a breakdown of costs.
Here are a few samples:

Alaska Yacht Charters

Discover South Carolina

Helpful site for European information

The difference in your itinerary and the samples is that you will have to include a price breakdown for the trip, a budget. How much would this cost you??? Doing these things before a trip is just smart travel.

Things to remember: Passport cost, money exchange rate, visual representation for when you present.

Tips for looking for activities and attractions:
Use your favorite search engine and look for “tourist attractions in (your country)” or “tour (your country)” or “things to do in (your country”

Good luck and let me know if you hit a stumbling block.

Due February 20th

Remember to site all sources.

www.google.com is not a source, it is a search engine. Great place to start.

Use search terms that are specific. If you want to know about the government of your country type the word government and the name of your country.

www.cia.gov is a great place for government, population, and leadership data. Visit the site and you will see “world fact book” on the right side. Go to the “world fact book” and find your country in the drop down menu.

To find current weather conditions in a country you can visit www.weatherunderground.com and type in the name of your country. It will return information about current temperatures. Since this is current information it would probably be better to return to Google and search “average weather of your country

There are several currency converters online: (for money exchange rates)
XE.com has one that may meet your needs.
Oanda has one for 164 currencies
Go Currency is another and looks a little more comprehensive and simplistic.

Expedia is one of the best sites to use for maps, flights, hotels, and other travel needs.

I like Booking Buddy for comparison pricing.

This should get your started. If you have problems post your questions or ask in class.
